ABSTRACT
Background body image is
an individual perception about body, either consciously or unconsciously
include: appearance, potential of body, function of body, as well as the perceptions
and feelings about size and shape of body.
Objective to exploring body
image perception of patients who have performing breast cancer surgery
(mastectomy) in district of gombong.
Methods the research
method is a method of qualitative descriptive with phenomenology approach.
Participants in the study were selected using purposive sampling method. The
authors use data collection is in-depth interviews. Data presented in
descriptive form to five patients post breast cancer surgery (mastectomy) as
participants.
Results perceptions of
patient post breast cancer surgery (mastectomy) about self-image in the
district of gombong that’s the patient is a negative body image, which consists
of embarrassed and inferior appearance, function and role of the husband she felt
awkward and sad, embarrassed, surprised even frustasted with her physical
condition. five participants in this study suggests it has a negative body
image after breast cancer surgery (mastectomy).
Conclusion patient who have
performing breast cancer surgery (mastectomy) have a negative body image.
